REVIEW OF EXISTING CLASSIFIED POSITIONS POLICY

PURPOSE

To outline the means by which West Virginia University reviews a classified position to ensure that the position is assigned the correct job title, pay grade and status in accordance with West Virginia Board of Trustees Series 62.

SCOPE

All classified positions at West Virginia University, including those on the regional campuses, are covered under this policy.

POLICY

A position description shall exist for every classified position. The supervisor shall review the position description for accuracy at least every three years.

The responsibility for assigning tasks and duties to a position belong to the supervisor. The supervisor updates and submits positions for review. The employee at the supervisor’s request may write the description. The position incumbent, the immediate supervisor, and the appropriate Dean/Director/Administrator must sign the updated position description.

Although the majority of the position reviews are conducted at the request of the Department, the Department of Human Resources reserves the right to initiate the review of positions.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

The immediate supervisor is responsible for completing an accurate position description and submitting it for review. The Classification and Compensation Unit in the Department of Human Resources, at 293-5700 or P.O. Box 6640, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of Human Resources, West Virginia University.
