New Grievance Procedure in Effect July 1, 2007
On March 7, 2007, the West Virginia Legislature passed Senate Bill No. 442, which amended the State employees grievance process. All
grievances filed on or after July 1, 2007, will be processed under the new legislation, WV Code 6C-2. For more information about this new
process, including the new grievance forms, go to the new Grievance Board website at
http://pegboard.state.wv.us. Any questions should be directed to the Employee Relations unit in the Division of Human Resources at
(304) 293-5700 ext. 5.
Your Rights as an Employee
Federal and West Virginia state laws require employers to post notices to employees informing them of their
rights and certain mandated benefits. These notices are posted at various locations around campus. In an effort to further
communicate this information, we now have links to these employee notices from the Human Resources web site at
www.hr.wvu.edu/hrpostings.cfm. Many of our Human Resources policies and
procedures reflect the requirements outlined in these notices.
These notices explain employee rights about topics such as equal employment opportunity (EEO), occupational
safety and health, the Family medical Leave Act (FMLA), unemployment compensation, workers' compensation, the human rights
act, and the rights of employees who are in the armed services among others.
Most of the links to these postings include detailed information about the specified law or regulation as
well as information about the agency that oversees the specific area. For example, the West Virginia Bureau of Employment
Programs Notice To Employees - Unemployment Benefits posting contains information about both full and partial unemployment
benefits, eligibility requirements, the locations of unemployment claims offices, documents that you would need to bring to
the claims office to file a claim, and a schedule of the amount of unemployment you would be eligible for based on your
current annual salary.
If you have questions about these postings or have a question relating to your workplace, please feel free to
contact the Employee Relations unit in Human Resources at 293-5700 extension 5.
Job bulletin changes
Human Resources is pleased to announce that jobs will be posted on-line to its website
http://www.hr.wvu.edu/jobs on a daily basis. Previously, the on-line jobs bulletin
was updated once a week.
Employment will continue to produce a hard copy jobs bulletin on Thursday of each week and all jobs will appear on at least
two hard copy bulletins prior to closing.
