CREATION OF A NEW POSITION CLASSIFIED/NON-CLASSIFIED POLICY

PURPOSE

To outline the means by which West Virginia University determines the classification status and salary range for a new position in accordance with West Virginia Board of Trustees Policy Bulletin Series 62 and the West Virginia University Affirmative Action Plan

SCOPE

This policy applies to all newly created classified and non-classified positions, including those on the regional campuses.

POLICY

Prior to beginning the posting/recruitment process, new positions (excluding faculty and faculty equivalent/academic professional) are to be assessed by the Classification and Compensation Unit in the Department of Human Resources. A signed position description form outlining the requirements of the position must be submitted to the Unit for determination of the classification status, corresponding pay grade or salary range, and recommendation of an appropriate title. Recruitment requires proper authorization from the appropriate Vice President.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

The hiring supervisor is responsible to submit the position description for review. The Classification and Compensation Unit in the Department of Human Resources, at 293-5700 or P.O. Box 6640, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of Human Resources, West Virginia University.
