YEARS OF SERVICE FOR CLASSIFIED SALARY SCHEDULE PLACEMENT POLICY
PURPOSE
To outline the manner by which WVU will determine years of service for appropriate placement on the classified employee salary schedule in accordance with WV Code 18B-9-2(j), 18B-9-3, and 18B-9-5(b) and WV Board of Trustees Series 62.
SCOPE
All full-time regular classified and part-time regular classified employees at West Virginia University, including those on the regional campuses, are covered under this policy.
POLICY
Employees earn years of service experience for placement on the salary schedule. Years of service for placement on the salary schedule is based upon accumulative years of service as an employee with the State of WV; employment for nine months or more in a 1.00 FTE position shall equal one year of experience, otherwise, time will be prorated to the position(s) FTE; and, time off payroll is not included.
The resulting years of service may not exceed the total number of fiscal years the individual was employed. Employees are entitled to placement on the salary schedule only for full years of service earned.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of Human Resources, West Virginia University.
