SENIORITY FOR ANNUAL LEAVE SCHEDULING OF CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES POLICY

PURPOSE

To outline the means by which West Virginia University considers an employee’s seniority for annual leave scheduling in accordance with the Board of Trustees Classified Employee Handbook and West Virginia Board of Trustees Series 35.

SCOPE

All full-time regular classified employees at West Virginia University, including those on the regional campuses, are covered under this policy.

POLICY

An employee may request annual leave consistent with established departental procedures. Annual leave will be scheduled consistent with the operational needs of the unit. If more than one similarly situated employee requests annual leave for the same time period, and the requests are being considered at the same time, seniority will be a deciding factor. For the purpose of this policy seniority begins the first day of employment in the department in a full-time regular position; is continuous full-time regular service; is pro-rated by FTE; and, time off the payroll is not included. For this policy, a new seniority record begins when an employee moves to a different department.
