LEAVE GRANTING FOR EMPLOYEES ATTENDING SESSIONS
OF THE WEST VIRGINIA LEGISLATURE POLICY
PURPOSE
To outline the means by which West Virginia University allows employees the opportunity for work release time to attend sessions of the State Legislature, as authorized by the Board of Trustees’ resolution, adopted February 12, 1985.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all University employees, including those on the regional campuses.
POLICY
Employees who attend sessions of the West Virginia Legislature are to be considered in a work status during such activities if it is for purposes of informing the Legislature about issues in higher education at the invitation of a member of the Legislature, the Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors or the President of WVU. The supervisor may request written verification of the invitation and purpose.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
The immediate supervisor is responsible for granting/denying employee requests under this policy. The Employee Relations Unit in the Department of Human Resources, at 293-5700 or P.O. Box 6640, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of Human Resources, West Virginia University.
