EMERGENCY LEAVE POLICY
PURPOSE
To outline the means by which West Virginia University grants emergency leave to its employees, in accordance with Board of Trustees Series 35.
SCOPE
All University full-time regular classified and full-time regular non-classified employees and faculty or FE/AP with twelve month contracts/appointments, including those on the regional campuses.
POLICY
In the event of extreme misfortune to the employee or his/her immediate family, provided that all accrued annual leave has been exhausted emergency leave of up to five days within a fiscal year may be requested by an employee, consistent with established procedures.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
The President of West Virginia University or his/her designee is responsible for determining if an employee’s request for emergency leave will be granted or denied. The Employee Relations Unit in the Department of Human Resources, at 293-5700 or P.O. Box 6640, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of Human Resources, West Virginia University.
