Guidelines for Supervisors and Employees Regarding Swine-Origin Influenza A (H1N1) Prevention
In response to current information regarding the development of swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) infections, the WVU
Division of Human Resources, in conjunction with WVU Occupational Medicine, has developed the following guidelines for employees and supervisors.
Supervisors are encouraged to discuss these guidelines with their employees. Supervisors and employees should also note that these guidelines are
subject to change as more information becomes available regarding the swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) virus. For questions regarding the
guidelines, please call the Division of Human Resources - Employee Relations unit at (304) 293-5700 ext. 5.

Human Resources issues guidelines for flexible work arrangements
Division of Human Resources officials remind supervisors and employees that flexible work schedules
have been permitted since 1980, with policies in place at the institutional and policy commission
levels. Increased interest, especially in light of rising gasoline and transportation costs, has
prompted many supervisors as well as employees to seek information on these flexible work
arrangements. Therefore, the guidelines, flexible work agreement request form, and some "frequently
asked questions" are now posted to the Employee Relations web site at:
http://www.hr.wvu.edu/emprelations/employeerelations.cfm.
Human Resources recognizes that not all colleges, departments or work units may be able to accommodate
employee requests based on operational needs, but does encourage flexibility to the extent possible
when considering work-life arrangements.
For further assistance regarding various work options or the implementation of these types of
schedules, contact the Employee Relations unit at 293-8168 or
employeerelations@mail.wvu.edu.
This information applies to employees at all WVU campuses and divisions.
New Grievance Procedure in Effect July 1, 2007
On March 7, 2007, the West Virginia Legislature passed Senate Bill No. 442, which amended the State employees' grievance
process. All grievances filed on or after July 1, 2007, will be processed under the new legislation, WV Code §
6C-2. For more information about this new process, including the new grievance forms, go to the new Grievance Board website at
http://pegboard.state.wv.us. Any questions should be directed to the Employee Relations
unit in the Division of Human Resources at (304) 293-5700 ext. 5.
Your Rights as an Employee
Federal and West Virginia state laws require employers to post notices to employees informing them of their
rights and certain mandated benefits. These notices are posted at various locations around campus. In an effort to further
communicate this information, we now have links to these employee notices from the Human Resources web site at
www.hr.wvu.edu/hrpostings.cfm. Many of our Human Resources policies and
procedures reflect the requirements outlined in these notices.
These notices explain employee rights about topics such as equal employment opportunity (EEO), occupational
safety and health, the Family medical Leave Act (FMLA), unemployment compensation, workers' compensation, the human rights
act, and the rights of employees who are in the armed services among others.
Most of the links to these postings include detailed information about the specified law or regulation as
well as information about the agency that oversees the specific area. For example, the West Virginia Bureau of Employment
Programs Notice To Employees - Unemployment Benefits posting contains information about both full and partial unemployment
benefits, eligibility requirements, the locations of unemployment claims offices, documents that you would need to bring to
the claims office to file a claim, and a schedule of the amount of unemployment you would be eligible for based on your
current annual salary.
If you have questions about these postings or have a question relating to your workplace, please feel free to
contact the Employee Relations unit in Human Resources at 293-5700 extension 5.
