Employees should complete an updated position description form in coordination with their supervisors. The form is available here. Please note that per the Higher Education Policy Commission's Series 8, supervisors have the final approval over their employees' PIQ's. When the appropriate approvals and signatures are obtained, the position description will be forwarded to Human Resources. Please note, that the job description must have changed significantly and/or be older than 3 years to require a review by Human Resources. Supervisors may choose to update job descriptions on an annual basis to keep job descriptions current and avoid going beyond the three year mark for a review.
Classification and Compensation will review the description and forward the results of the review to the employee's supervisor within 30 working days of the day that it was received by Human Resources.
In the case of an upgrade or acceptance of a position at a higher paygrade, salary will be increased 5% per paygrade or the entry rate of the new paygrade, whichever is greater.
According to Series 8, the Classification and Compensation (C&C) unit has 30 working days from the time that it receives the review request to complete the review and make a recommendation. Extenuating circumstances (including the need to submit a request to the Statewide Job Evaluation Committee (JEC) for further evaluation and review) may lengthen this process. However, the C&C unit has recently implemented a "Fast-Track" review process, in which it pledges to complete routine reviews in half the time - 14 working days. Contact C&C at ClassComp-HR@mail.wvu.edu for information regarding specific situations.
