Position Types

WVU employs individuals in a variety of roles to meet its missions through the academic, research, service and administrative objectives in support of the University, its students, and the people of WV. These roles may be on going or temporary; exempt or non-exempt; faculty, classified, non-classified, or academic professional in nature. These determinations are governed by the Fair Labor Standards Act, and policies of our governing Board. Management of these, interpretive and application assistance, are provided by the C&C staff.

WVU strives to meet the goal of a uniform system of personnel classification, as provided for through WV Code �18B-9-1 and WV BOT Series 8. The University is guided in this effort by the WV higher education classified employment Job Evaluation Plan, otherwise known as the Mercer Plan. The Plan provides for evaluation of key position traits (knowledge, experience, complexity & problem solving, freedom of action, scope & effect, breadth of responsibility, internal & external contacts, direct & indirect supervision, physical coordination, & working conditions) according to a point factor system.
