West Virginia University through Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) offers employees a variety of Life Insurance options. Below is a brief summary of each of the options. For more information, please visit PEIA's website or contact the WVU Division of Human Resources Benefits Office.
Basic Life Insurance (Employer-paid)
Active employees may enroll in a basic $10,000 decreasing term life insurance policy with accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) benefits. The value of this policy drops to $5,000 at age 65 and/or at retirement and to $2,500 at age 67. Premiums for basic life insurance are paid by WVU.
Optional Life Insurance (Employee-paid)
Active employees may apply for life insurance up to $500,000. There are 18 insurance levels plans available. This is also decreasing term coverage. Employees enrolling in Optional life insurance must complete and submit an Evidence of Insurability form along with their optional Life Enrollment form. Coverage is not guaranteed.
Premiums for optional life insurance are paid by the employee. Information on the premiums can be found in the 2008-2009 PEIA Shopper's Guide.
Dependent Life Insurance (Employee-paid)
Active employees may apply for life insurance for their dependents through policies up to $20,000 for a spouse and $10,000 for each child. There are four insurance levels plans available.
Premiums for dependent life insurance are paid by the employee.
