Long-Term Disability Open Enrollment

Enrollment for WVU-Standard long-term disability plan to begin March 1

The Benefits Administration Office in the WVU Division of Human Resources, in coordination with Standard Insurance Company, is pleased to announce open enrollment for the WVU-Standard Long Term Disability (LTD) Plan from March 1-March 31, 2008.

If you are a benefits-eligible employee and have not enrolled in a long-term disability plan, now might be a good time. Coverage for those enrolling in March will begin April 1.

This two-pronged plan has a monthly income benefit as well as a monthly annuity premium benefit which continues contributions to existing TIAA-CREF or Great West Retirement Services retirement annuities while receiving monthly income benefits. The amount of the monthly annuity premium benefit is equal to 12 percent of a persons monthly wage base.

For those employees already enrolled in the LTD plan, a premium decrease of between 3-5 percent will be seen when both the annuity and the monthly income benefit are combined, effective February, 2008.

To assist employees with long-term disability insurance options, the WVU Benefits Administration Office will be offering presentations by Standard Insurance representatives Tuesday, March 18, at 1 and 3 p.m. in room 101A at the National Research Center for Coal and Energy. In addition, Benefits staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide information regarding the plan.

The WVU-Standard Long-Term Disability Plan, fact sheet, rate sheet and enrollment form can be found on line at http://www.hr.wvu.edu/benefits/ltd_open_enrollment.cfm beginning March 1. A general description of the pre-existing condition exclusion is included in the voluntary LTD employee brochure.

Enrollment forms may be dropped off at the Division of Human Resources, 2nd Floor, One Waterfront Place, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by using the HR Drop Off Box located in front of the building. Employees located at the Health Sciences Center and regional and division campuses should submit their forms to their respective campus Human Resources offices. All forms must be submitted by the close of business March 31, 2008.

A separate open enrollment period will be held in April for the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) health insurance and Mountaineer Flexible Benefits (FBMC). Additional information will be forthcoming regarding those vendors, plan changes and enrollment dates.

To further assist employees in understanding the benefits offered to them, Training and Development is offering Benefits of Your Benefits training sessions at various dates and locations.
