What are the work hours?
FM typically works a 7.5 hour shift from 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. During the apprentice program the hours will vary to accommodate training and other program requirements.
Will I need to supply my own tools?
Tools and safety equipment will be provided. Apprentice will supply his own work clothes and boots.
How will I progress through the program?
As an apprentice you will be expected to complete on the job training and classroom instruction. Your time as an apprentice will require you to be constantly learning and perfecting new tasks and taking on new duties. Once you have satisfactorily completed all the necessary requirements for your current level of apprenticeship, your job will be reviewed and moved to the next level of apprentice.
Will I be paid for classroom instruction?
Yes, you will be paid for time spent in the classroom. You will be provided with work release or flex time to attend classes. However, you will be expected to cover travel to and from classes unless otherwise noted.
Where will the classes be held?
Many of the classes will be held in one of our computer labs within our Facilities Management building. Classes will also be held at MTEC here in Morgantown.
How long does the program last?
The program is expected to last four years assuming the apprentice successfully completes all training and classes when they are offered.
Will I be required to take any test?
Yes, an aptitude test for the selection process and test will also be required for completion of much of the class work.
Will I work in the same shop for full term of the program?
Not necessarily, some on the job training requirements or operational need may require the apprentice to work in another area.
Will I have benefits as an apprentice?
Yes, the same as any other full time WVU employee. Refer to human resources.
